Viharamahadevi Park

Viharamahadevi Park is the Largest and the Oldest Park located in front of Colombo municipal council and maintained by them. Viharamahadevivi park named after king Dutagemunu’s mother was previously called Victoria park while the British ruled.

There is one golden Buddha statue placed in one side of the park along with an open air stadium. While some people say there is a mini zoo we could only find horses, some birds and a little aquarium only.  While we could understand that the horses were caged yet they looks sadder than that situation could probably made them to be.

There is children playing area that mostly build over a soft floor located in one side of the park and there are some specially allocated for disability kids to use as well. Chairs available in the children park as well.  There were Bicycles available there to rent from 60/= per hour to enjoy a nice ride in the special track while people who goes for walking uses another track it ensures kids safety.

This Park is the perfect for picnic, meetings, photo shoot, study and mostly to get a relaxing feel.

Even though there are plenty trees mostly all over the park to cover sunlight you’ll definitely feel the heat at midday. While this place is ok for a family visit it’s almost impossible to stay under a tree and have a great evening as these areas will be filled by lovers.

Although there are plenty to experience and enjoy you wouldn’t just find it from outside. As we initially planned to visit there we actually went and immediately came back thinking that there in nothing to see but it’s only when we entered inside we could see all.

There we some ponds, a Bridge, shops and some little meeting areas all over the park too. Outside one of its entrance you can find some arts frames which will definitely worth a visit.

Worth visiting once in lifetime.

Toilet Facilities available too...

Opening Hours: 7am-6pm
Tickets: Free
Parking: Only Public parking available outside
Time: Nearly takes 2 hours to enjoy the part at the minimum

Seema Malaka

A post shared by Thuvarakan (@vtthuvarakan) on

Seema Malaka is a Buddhist temple in the Beira Lake in Colombo, Srilanka. This temple mainly used for meditation rather than for worship. Seema Malika is part of the Gangaramaya Temple and is situated few hundred meters to its east. With water surrounding its all three sides and all trees around the lake give the whole atmosphere a great peaceful feel. There are some birds around there too.
According to Wikipedia the temple was originally constructed in the late 19th century. After the original structure slowly sank into the water arround 1970s it was brought in to redesign and constructed a srilankan architect named Geoffrey Bawa In 1976.

There is a boat service running by swan boats project in the lake. It seems the common parking service charged  by them a little bit expensive too.
Car/Van         - Rs. 40/-
Threewheel - Rs.30/-
MotorCycle - Rs.20/-
